New Vox – filled with letters – spread from today onwards by post and on campus

17 Dec 2020

2020 was the year of love. 2020 was the year of moving houses. 2020 was the year of the book that was finally there. The new Vox is filled with letters from students and employees about their year 2020. The c-word doesn’t appear in this latest edition.

For the first time in months, this week a new edition of the (paper) Vox sees the light of day. The magazine will not only be found in the displays on campus, but will also be spread by post to students and employees. After all: who comes to campus these days?

The magazine is dedicated to the crazy year 2020. But we won’t talk about the pandemic. 2020 was so much more. It was the year of newfound love, moving houses, diploma-ceremonies and scientific discoveries. Children were born, books were written and jobs were found.

Letters

A few weeks ago we asked students and employees of Radboud University to share their personal highlights with us. All those letters form the basis of this December-Vox. Historian Lennert Savernije writes about how he saw ice floating in St.- Petersburg in February, project officer Joël Hendrix explains how she baked the perfect macarons and Wilma de Koning, vice-chair of the executive board, shares her grief over the loss of her deceased dog Bluf.

And there are interviews with outgoing Professor Jan Jonker, student Mike Foppen who ran a road record, student Lotte Dirchs who got to know herself during a top model-competition and the Syrian dentist Omar Najem who landed in Nijmegen-Oost. The editorial staff also went looking for scientists who weren’t working on THE virus, but were racking their brains over other essential matters. And we dove into the ‘bishop situation’. What went wrong, exactly? And why did the Catholics decide to break their ties with Radboud University now of all times? Already in 2005 the seed was sown for the conflict that lead to the definite separation between church and university.

Current news

The magazine will be sent to the homes of students and employees and can be found on the displays on campus. Anyone who has missed out on Vox and wants to receive a copy, can send an email to redactie@vox.ru.nl. Reading the pdf file online is also possible.

The current news about new measures of the government and the consequences for the university, you can read – as always – on this website.
