Orientation special: what are Nijmegen’s hotspots?

20 Aug 2017

The El Sombrero, Fuik and TweeKeerBellen get introduced to every student during orientation week. But which other places should you go in Nijmegen? Vox helps the first-year student on their way in the new bilingual orientation special. Available on campus now.

What about a local beer at the best bar of the Netherlands, a lunch in a cat cafe or a dance party in an old factory? It is all possible in Nijmegen, and chances are that orientation week will not bring you to those places. That is why the new Vox issue is made especially for first-years: which places do you have to visit during your time in Nijmegen?

Of course going to university is not only about the question of where to order the best drinks. That is why this Vox also gives an insight into the different kinds of research that is conducted at Radboud University. Did you know that at the Nijmegen astronomy department, researchers conduct groundbreaking research on gravity waves? In the Erasmus building, a study on the Dutch identity is done and in the Grotius building, lawyers study the Dutch asylum policy.

Do’s and don’ts
Alright – we understand that these things are not the first thing on your mind right now. First, you want to find a nice place to live. But how do you do that? We help you out there as well. Follow our roadmap and before you know it, you are all set to move into your Nijmegen home. But then the hard part starts: living together with roommates. We list a couple of do’s and don’ts.

One last tip: if you get lost during your first weeks on campus, talk to a doorman. Often, they are very nice gentlemen (and sometimes ladies). Vox portrayed three of them.
