Week tip: Kraantje Pappie at Doornroosje tonight

02 Mar 2018

No idea what to do during the upcoming week? Our week tippers know what to do! This week, Lee Collings gives you the tip to learn some Dutch music culture.

If you have no plans tonight then Kraantje Pappie alongside DJ Friss, performing at Doornroosje could be exactly what you’re looking for to start your weekend the right way! Kraantje Pappie is one of the leading figures in the Dutch Rap scene, boasting millions of YouTube views on hit singles such as Pompen and De Manier. Originating from Rozenberg near Rotterdam, Kraantje Pappie’s eccentric style of fast off-beat rap is a great way to experience a cultural insight in to the Dutch rap scene and listen to a style that you may have never heard before.

Originating from England myself and growing up under the influence of the English grime/rap scene as well as more commercially renowned American hip-hop and rap, for me, Kraantje Pappie brings a completely diverse and individual sound in his music. The production behind Kraantje Pappie’s hit songs show an array of quick-paced, heavy dance beats which are perfect for venues such as Doornroosje, meaning that the atmosphere on Friday night is likely to be electric. His flamboyant dress style is also something interesting to look out for, completely diverging from the mainstream look of designer clothes and expensive jewellery in the US and UK rap scenes, I’d recommend Kraantje Pappie’s Pompen music video as an insight in to his character. So no matter where you’re from, if you’re an international student looking to immerse yourself in Dutch music culture, then this event is perfect for you.
