Refter customers paid too much because of mistake

22 Jan 2020

Meat dishes at the Refter were too expensive for approximately two weeks. Manager Rens Janssen got to the bottom of it on Tuesday. ’An unfortunate interplay of circumstances.’

Prices at the Refter are adjusted every year. This year, the prices for meat dishes at Craft rose quite steeply: from 5 to 5,50 euros for students and from 5,60 to 6 euros for non-students. Meanwhile, vegetarian dishes merely rose by 10 cents. This quickly resulted in complaints on campus.

However: this steep increase in prices was not intentional. The price for meat dishes was supposed to rise by 10 cents as well, says manager Rens Janssen. ’It is really aggravating, because we know that students of all people often have a small budget.’

Wrongly entered
The prices had been wrongly entered into the Refter’s computer system, explains Janssen. ’Every year, we adapt our prices there manually. This time, that went wrong. An unfortunate interplay of circumstances.’ He emphasises that the cashiers at the Refter were not to blame. ’The increase was just small enough to go under the radar of our colleagues.’

The Refter will now introduce an additional control mechanism for price changes. Through that, Janssen hopes to prevent similar issues in the future. In order to compensate customers who payed too much, meal prices at the Refter will be temporarily decreased beginning next week. ’This way, we hope to do the best we can to make it right.’
