Victim of fatal traffic accident was student at Radboud University

06 Dec 2021

The twenty-year-old woman who died at a traffic accident at the Sint Annastraat last Thursday was a second-year student Psychology at Radboud University.

The fatal accident took place Thursday afternoon at the crossing between the Sint Annastraat and the Slotemaker de Bruïneweg, just a stone’s throw away from the university campus. There, Antonia Käding – ‘Toni’ to her friends – came into contact with a garbage truck. That the emergency services turned out en masse, was to no avail.

Psychology

The German Käding was a second-year Psychology student at Radboud University. The fellow students of her year were informed about the tragic news last Friday. Other bachelor students and teachers received the news from the study director today.

Friends from her study described Toni in the email as “the most positive-minded, caring and kindest friend” and “Toni was the sunshine for many of us and will be remembered forever”. A spontaneous monument arose on the roadside shortly after the accident, with texts such as “Auf ewig in unseren Herzen, Toni” (Forever in our hearts, Toni, ed.) and “Toni, du wirst so geliebt” (Toni, you were so loved, ed.).

Student Chaplaincy

Rector Han van Krieken resacted via Radboudnet to Käding’s death: ‘It’s heartbreaking that Antonia, while facing a bright future, has so suddenly lost her life. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.’

A memorial has also been set up in the Student Chaplaincy. It can be visited during the chaplaincy’s regular opening hours. The study Psychology is working with friends and family of Käding to organize a memorial service.
